Feline Friends
of
Humane Society of Cowlitz County
Feline
Friends will sponsor three spay/neuter clinics in Longview in 2008 for
feral or homeless cats. These dates are: Sunday: March 9,
April 27 and November 2.
In conjunction with the Feral Cat Coaltion of Oregon,
Feline Friends (a part of the Humane Society of Cowlitz County) has
spayed/neutered a total of 927 cats in our previous clinics here in
Longview. We are anticipating that the 1000th cat might come through
the clinic on March 9th. We are making a difference!
The Feline Friends message line is open now for phone
messages requesting reservations for cats to be spayed or neutered at
the March 9th clinic in Longview. The phone number is
360-673-7300. The cats must be screened and have a
reservation. These clinics are for feral or homeless cats which
are being fed by a caregiver. Pet cats do not qualify for this
program. Feline Friends has traps to loan out to catch feral
cats, or carriers for friendly barn cats. We ask for a donation
of $30 per cat (to be given to the Feral Cat Coaliton of Oregon), and
Feline Friends has some monetary help available if caregivers cannot
afford the entire amount.
One cat at a time we are making an impact on the
overpopulation problem. The cats' lives are made better by
receiving rabies shots, vaccinations, flea/worm treatments, ear
tipping, high quality care, and of course the promise of no more
kittens! Our local veterinarians make this service possible by
volunteering their time for this worthy project. They, along with
professional veterinarian technicians and assistants, and many caring
volunteers, are commited to improving the lives of the cats, and the
health of our community.

The Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon
operates a 24 foot mobile hospital and provides donation-based
spay/neuter clinics for feral and stray cats in eight communities.
If you
know of ferals or strays who are in need of spay/neuter, this is how it
works:
Caregivers
who are feeding the cats trap the cats, bring
them tom a clinic, and return the cats where they are being fed.
Reservations are necessary and caregivers will be screened to be sure
their cats qualify (owned house cats do not qualify).
Each cat must be in its own trap or carrier. Feline Friends
has traps/carriers to lend out for this purpose.
All caregivers must sign an anesthesia release form. Rabies,
three way upper respiratory (distemper) vaccines, pain relief and
penicillin injections are included in the high quality care.
Local veterinarians donate their time.
The right ear of each cat is tipped 1/8 inch to identify it as having
been altered.
The donation to the FCCO is $30.00 per cat. Call the message
line for Feline Friends and a volunteer will return your call.

DONATIONS GRATEFULLY ACCEPTED (Donations go for the Spay/Neuter Program)
Trap-Neuter-Return programs like the FCCO's are the most effective and
humane approach to controlling feral cat populations. In the
eleven years they have been operating, FCCO has spay/neutered almost
30,000 cats who would otherwise would not have received any care.
Equally impressive is the number of kittens they have
prevented. If one cat and all of her offspring had just one
litter of four kittens, in 9 years there would be 349,525 additional
cats! Multiply that by 30,000 and the number is staggering.
SPAYING AND NEUTERING WORKS!!!
