Executive Director's Corner

Spring has sprung:

I love warm weather like veryone else. Along with the warm weather comes kitten season.
The cats come out of hiding and socialize most of the time too much when the weather turns nice. This brings in cats to the Shelter in an alarming rate. If you have a female cat please get her spayed so the cycle ends and the number of cats doesn’t increase.

Our April clinic for feral cats saw us alter 83 cats. Of these 44 were female and 39 males. Of the females 11 were in heat and 23 were already pregnant. This means as many as 100 kittens were not born and reproducing out in the wild. This is our 16th Clinic and to date 1359 cats have been altered since 2004. The cost of the Clinics continue to climb with the cost of the last one was $2990 and the caregivers of the cats paid $2283 leaving the Humane Society with a $707 bill not counting the $500 it takes to get the FCCO truck here. So if you see a feral cat and the ear is tipped leave it in alone because it is already fixed and not reproducing..

With the help from our Auction and generous support from our newsletters and members we just completed the new ventilation system in Kitty Korner. Now the cats have clean fresh air to breathe. Thanks to all that contributed to the new AIR.
We have rooms full of cats and they are all eager to go home. Cats really only have one life, can’t you find it in your heart to make it a happy one, adopt a new friend.

Call Rick if you want to help the Shelter’s number is 577-0151

Feline Friends News

114 feral cats were altered. Good Job and thanks to the volunteers for your help.  Without you and the Vets this wouldn't have been possible.

Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon (see http://www.feralcats.com for their yearly schedule of clinics and phone numbers).  Supported by donations only, the FCCO brings its mobile spay/neuter truck to Longview three times per year.  Feline Friends asks for a donation of $30 per cat, and the cats are spayed or neutered, given a rabies shot, other vaccinations, and an ear tip to identify them as having been fixed.  The cats receive high quality care by our local doctors, who donate their time to this lifesaving program.

To donate much-needed funds to this program, checks may be sent to:  Feline Friends,  1105-D 15th Ave., Box 178, Longview, WA  98632.  All monies go to the spay/neuter of feral cats.
